Participation of the Foreign Minister in the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement
His Excellency Ambassador Hussein Awad Ali, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated this morning, Monday, September 23, 2024, in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Most of the movement’s foreign ministers attended the meeting, which was held under the theme: “Protecting Civilians in Armed Conflict: A Stand in Solidarity with the Palestinian People.” In his address, the Minister praised the significant role the Non-Aligned Movement has played for nearly seven decades.
Regarding the protection of civilians in Gaza and solidarity with the Palestinian people, His Excellency stressed that the prolonged conflict and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza challenge international will and warn of a greater disaster unless the international community, especially the Security Council, acts to stop the war and protect civilians.
He explained that the Sudanese Armed Forces are fulfilling their constitutional and moral duty to defend the country and the Sudanese people against the aggression of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF), backed by regional allies. The Minister pointed out that the militias are targeting peaceful civilians and the resources of the Sudanese state. He further stated that the government’s position on the need to end the rebellion enjoys broad support from all sectors of society. He called on the meeting to classify the RSF as a rebel militia, following the lead of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League, and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, all of which have designated the RSF as a rebel force.
