Press Statement

25/35

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reviewed with great attention the press statement issued yesterday by the United Nations Security Council regarding the brutal attacks on the city of El Fasher and the surrounding IDPs camps, which are primarily targeting civilians on ethnic grounds.

The Ministry welcomes the statement’s strong condemnation of the terrorist RSF militia by name for their repeated attacks on the Zamzam and Abu Shouk IDPs camps, as well as the call to hold them accountable for these assaults and their targeting of civilians.

The statement also demands that the RSF militia immediately lift the siege on El Fasher and cease its attacks, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2372 (2024).

It furthermore urges all UN member states to refrain from external interventions that foment conflict and instability in Sudan, while reaffirming full commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

In this connection the Ministry calls for more effective measures to implement Security Council Resolution 2736 (2024), nearly a year after its adoption. It has become evident that the terrorist RSF militia disregards demands that are not backed by punitive and deterrent actions against its leadership and its regional sponsor. On the contrary, the militia has responded to these demands by escalating attacks on the camps of the internally dusplaced persons and further preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid to El Fasher, as part of its campaign of genocide against the communities of Darfur— orchestrated under the supervision of its regional patron.

The time has come for the international community to take concrete steps against those responsible for these atrocities to uphold the principle of accountability and to put an end to impunity.
